DEVELOPING:
A Merriwa man has been banned from being in control of any dog for a decade and fined $4000 after starving his two pets.

Shane Troy Tilley was sentenced in Joondalup Magistrates Court yesterday on charges relating to his dogs, Max and Marley, which a RSPCA WA inspector seized in May 2017.

An RSPCA WA inspector, who was responding to a report from a concerned member of the public, found Mr Tilley’s severely emaciated mixed-breed dogs confined in a small, faeces-strewn area at the side of his house in May last year.

They had to remove a fence panel to rescue Max and Marley, and vets later concluded they had been starved for several weeks.
The dogs were also suffering from other medical conditions that had apparently not been treated.

Chief Inspector Amanda Swift said Max and Marley were recovering thanks to the efforts of foster carers, the vet team and attendants at RSPCA WA's Animal Management facility.

“I hope they find new families soon, who will love and look after them for the rest of their days,” Ms Swift said.

On top of the fine, Tilley was ordered in Joondalup Magistrates Court to pay total costs of $10,773, including $3047 in veterinary bills.
