DEVELOPING:
A Mount Barker man who maliciously beat his pet dog has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in Albany Magistrates' Court and was fined $2500.

Thomas Herbert Glass, 27, of Mount Barker, 400km south of Perth, pleaded guilty to maliciously beating his pet dog Dex, a tan Staffordshire puppy.

The court heard, Dex was seized by an RSPCA WA inspector and an examination by a vet revealed previous trauma to his skull and a healed rib fracture.

RSPCA WA chief inspector Amanda Swift said the deliberate cruel treatment of animals will not be tolerated and RSPCA will take action against people who treat their animals in this manner.

Glass was required to pay a further $182.30 in veterinary costs and legal fees.
